You’re A Geologist???
So…
I recently had this idea to ask the people close to me (friends, family, etc.) what they think I do every day at my job. They all know I’m a geologist, or geophysicist, or whatever. But it was pretty funny seeing what they think I do each day at work, compared to what I actually do.
Here are their responses!
Wife - “You use equipment to look for things underground, like electric lines, storage tanks, and you can also find cracks in bedrock”
Mom - "You like check the soil for any pollution in it and take water samples to check for pollution in it…help companies figure out where to dig their foundations, or where to dig anything…soil analysis, like is it clay or is it sand... stuff like that"
Stepdad - “You’re an investigator of properties for hidden utilities and things underground. You’re not a surveyor, but you survey properties for pipes and hazards… things like that. You scan properties with radar, map everything out with GPS and make topographical maps of the property”
Dad - “You’re a geologist. You analyze commercial job sites for current or future use to see if there are any concerns underground before any penetration or excavation takes place”
Brother - “Geology”
Friend - “You go out to riverbeds and check the rocks, turning them over to make sure they get enough sunlight. Wait that was your last job! Your job now, pretty sure you go out and analyze cleavage. You can also predict earthquakes by using a stethoscope and holding it to the ground”
Anyone else care to take a stab at what I do??? Add a comment below with your best (or worst) guess!
